Mission to the Edge of Space – Let’s Try This Again!!!

After a few aborted attempts due to weather conditions (strong winds) the “mission to the edge of space” is happening NOW!

Check it out LIVE here: www.youtube.com/user/redbull/stratos  This is historic stuff, folks!

Update after Historic Event: That was awesome! But a little nerve wracking, praying and wondering if it was all going to turn out alright, especially seeing how the capsule reached almost 8,000 feet above the target height.  I couldn’t make out what he was saying but I thought those sounded like “famous last words” when he finally said, “I’m going home now” (and I wondered if it would come to mean “to God in death” or “to his family on earth”) just before he lept!  By far the scariest part for me and my wife watching was seeing him tumbling over and over again after the leap.  I remember reading that if he got caught in a spin, he could easily snap his neck.  Thank God he managed to get his head down (probably from all his experience) and descend safely.  Well done, Felix! You’re definitely going down in history for this one.  On twitter it seemed there were quite a few morbid and sick people out there who seemed to almost wish something would go wrong.  I really don’t understand people like that.  I did like the tweet from NASA (@NASA) which read “Congratulations to Felix Baumgartner and @RedBullStratos on a record-breaking leap from the edge of space!”

In case you missed this historic event, here it is on video:                         Not only did Felix break several falling from space records. He also broke internet records!  More than 7.1 million people were online to watch it live breaking the youtube record by 10 times!!! (from Mashable.com) One popular tweet read, “Felix broke the internet!” :-)

I think that “Felix” is definitely going to up in the ranking of most popular baby names in the near future as it was only #311 in 2011! (from Disney Baby).  And in case you didn’t know it, “Felix” means “happy” or “fortunate“! Yes, fortunate indeed!  :-) Felix’s guardian angel was definitely working overtime today!
