Happy Halloween AND Reformation Day!!!

Why isn’t Dracula invited to many Halloween parties?  Answer: “Because he can be a real pain in the neck, ha!ha!

Halloween (Oct. 31st if you didn’t know it!) seems to get more popular with each passing year in Muscat, Oman.  I guess it’s because the Western expats with all their Halloween parties and such spread this idea across the globe.  (Check out this video in which a zombie invasion almost effected the entire Phillipine School Muscat just 2 years ago, ha!ha!)  In the UAE (just north of us!), they even had a Halloween party for dogs in the news today, ha!ha! (Check out the video here)

What many people (including many Christians) fail to know is that Oct 31st is also the day that many Protestant Christians celebrate “Reformation Day“.  It’s the day (in 1517) that Martin Luther posted “The 95 Theses” on the door of the Schlosskirche (castle church) in Wittenberg challenging the unbiblical notion by the Roman Catholic church that good works could be obtained by donating money to the church.

This is the door in Wittenberg, Germany where Martin Luther nailed The 95 Theses challenging the unbiblical doctrines of men taught by the Catholic Church.

The original door was destroyed in a fire in 1760 but they’ve made bronze doors with the 95 Theses in Latin to commemorate the event.

This movie, Luther, is one of my favorite movies of all time as it is a powerful portrayal of the life changing events of Martin Luther’s life and how he broke away from the “doctrines of men” in the Catholic Church to rest his faith upon Christ alone.  If you haven’t seen this movie yet, try to get your hands on it!

One powerful thing which Martin Luther is recorded with saying at a trial in Worms, Germany, where he was asked to recant all of his writings against the Catholic church is:

On this Reformation Day, why not enjoy a classic hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God“, which was written by Martin Luther?!  It’s a beautiful, deep song that was inspired by Psalm 46This version by Steve Green is amazing!

So Happy Halloween AND Reformation Day to everyone out there!

Coffee Think Restaurant

Some of the little shops in Oman have the strangest names.  Take this coffee shop/restaurant name in Azaiba for example.  What do you think they mean to say by “Coffee Think Restaurant“?!  Perhaps the sign means, “A Coffeeshop that Thinks it’s a Restaurant” or maybe “I’ll just have a coffee as I don’t think this is much of a restaurant.” haha  :-)

All-You-Can Eat Seafood Grill at Sama Terrazza’s Rooftop Lounge at Park Inn, Al Khuwair, Muscat

Sama Terrazza is the name of the bar/restaurant on the rooftop of ParkInn.  Terrazza is Italian for “Terrace” and I think Sama means “Sky” in Arabic.  We heard that they have a fabulous “all you can eat seafood buffet” there, so off we went to check it out.  This was my first time in Park Inn.  Beautiful lounge.   I noticed these rules just outside of Sama Terrazza on the way out.  Notice the rule stating “no one under 21″.  They never mentioned this to us when we reserved seats.  I guess that explains the motley crew of expats drinking it up and giving us that dirty “what are they doing here with a child look”, ha!ha!  I’m sure the “all you can eat and drink for 26 rials deal is quite popular”.  Not a bad view from Sama Terrazza!  This is what we were here for!  By the way, they have no problem whatsoever with switching the “complimentary alcoholic drink” with a non-alcoholic one of your choice.  They’ll cook you whatever you request and bring it over to your table for you.  The caesar salad was delicious!  The seafood was awesome!  This was the first seafood buffet that I’ve had in Muscat and boy was it good.  This is a horribly blurry pic but I wanted to point out the option of sitting on those comfortable cushion seats next to the pool.  They also had normal wooden tables (where we sat to eat) and sofa like seating which seemed popular with the drinking groups.  The Sama Terrazza bar on the rooftop.  That neon light changes colour every second or so.  You don’t believe me? …  Just in case you didn’t believe me, there it is in blue.  :-)  And there it is in yellow! (Now I’m just being silly!)   The service at Sama Terrazza was great, the views incredible and the seafood fabulous!  Check out more info on Park Inn, Al Khuwair at www.parkinn.muscat.com  If you like seafood, live in the Muscat area and have time on a Tuesday evening, give the Sama Terrazza seafood grill a try!  (Why these pics are so huge compared to all my other pics, I have no idea!)
