Why isn’t Dracula invited to many Halloween parties? Answer: “Because he can be a real pain in the neck“, ha!ha!
Halloween (Oct. 31st if you didn’t know it!) seems to get more popular with each passing year in Muscat, Oman. I guess it’s because the Western expats with all their Halloween parties and such spread this idea across the globe. (Check out this video in which a zombie invasion almost effected the entire Phillipine School Muscat just 2 years ago, ha!ha!) In the UAE (just north of us!), they even had a Halloween party for dogs in the news today, ha!ha! (Check out the video here)
What many people (including many Christians) fail to know is that Oct 31st is also the day that many Protestant Christians celebrate “Reformation Day“. It’s the day (in 1517) that Martin Luther posted “The 95 Theses” on the door of the Schlosskirche (castle church) in Wittenberg challenging the unbiblical notion by the Roman Catholic church that good works could be obtained by donating money to the church.
This is the door in Wittenberg, Germany where Martin Luther nailed The 95 Theses challenging the unbiblical doctrines of men taught by the Catholic Church.
The original door was destroyed in a fire in 1760 but they’ve made bronze doors with the 95 Theses in Latin to commemorate the event.
This movie, Luther, is one of my favorite movies of all time as it is a powerful portrayal of the life changing events of Martin Luther’s life and how he broke away from the “doctrines of men” in the Catholic Church to rest his faith upon Christ alone. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, try to get your hands on it!
One powerful thing which Martin Luther is recorded with saying at a trial in Worms, Germany, where he was asked to recant all of his writings against the Catholic church is:
On this Reformation Day, why not enjoy a classic hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God“, which was written by Martin Luther?! It’s a beautiful, deep song that was inspired by Psalm 46. This version by Steve Green is amazing!
So Happy Halloween AND Reformation Day to everyone out there!
